Our History

Crozier Machine Tool Company was founded in 1937 with the goal of producing innovative products for the machine tool industry. Many of our products were the first of their kind. We introduced the Speedy polishing Lathe in 1941 to fill the need for a small easy to use machine that occupied a small area and could be operated by semi skilled labor. Since that time thousands have been built to do those small jobs in the garage shops up to series production in large factories. The first series of Speed Lathes were direct drive units with the brake and collet closure built into custom end brackets. These speed lathes were compact units that were rugged and reliable. Even though these speed lathes were superseded by the belt drive units, many thousands are still in use today. It's not unusual for us to hear from customers decades later requesting replacement parts from a machine delivered in the 1950's or 1960's. The Speed Lathe is still one of our best selling products.

Two of the original direct drive speed lathes from the 1950's and through the 1960's are the 2ABPL and the 10ACPL. The 2ABPL has a 161 frame, either 1/2 HP or 3/4 HP, and two speeds switchable between 1800 RPM and 3600 RPM. Parts for the 2ABPL are loaded into the collet inside the direct drive spindle. Collet closure is achieved mechanically by rotating the handle on the collet end of the motor. Rotating the opposing handle activates the mechanical brake.

The 10ACPL has a chuck mounted on the spindle for handling small runs of various sized parts. The 10ACPL has a larger 225 frame and 1 HP at 1800 RPM or 1/2 HP at 900 RPM.

From the early 1980's the 30BDPL-A was our original belt driven air-collet closure Speed Lathe. We are proud that over 5,000 belt driven air-collet Speed Lathes have been delivered to date. Our current and most popular version is the Model 30DC Speed Lathe which uses equivalent internal parts. This makes it possible for us to use the spindle assembly and rebuild your 30BDPL-A by adding a variable speed motor controller, motor and new housing at 2/3rd's the cost of a new Model 30DC Speed Lathe. We built collet closures for engine lathes, tool post holders for small lathes (Atlas, Sears and South Bend) and bed turrets. During the early 1940's we produced surface plates and inspection devices for the government. We also build a bushing and bearing puller that is still in use today for the removal of bushing and bearings from blind holes. These units are found in the tool kits for military airplanes and vehicles. During the early days, we were one of the largest suppliers of custom collets in the United States. Most orders were shipped within 24 hours from receipt of order.

Today we still build Speed Lathes and Bushing and Bearing Extractors. Our line of Speed Lathes is second to none with features not found on other units. In addition, we are producing specialty machines for a wide range of industries. These include CNC second operation lathes, CNC mini-mills and CNC attachments for mills.
